Textile techniques with artist Helen Mather
Description
Join a hands-on textile workshop at People’s History Museum to explore how fabric and activism interweave. Learn stitching and simple textile techniques with professional artist Helen Mather, use specially designed resources, and take inspiration from banners and stories in the collection, including the 1888 Match Girls’ Strike, the 1889 Dock and Tailors strikes, and the rise of New Unionism. We will create fabric “matches” to symbolise the spark behind strike action, contributing to a collective artwork for future Fabric of Protest sessions.
