We at 99active have met Julia from The Emotionfactory. Lina was immediately taken with her openness and the way she naturally makes room for other creative people. Julia loves making things herself, and she opens her space to people who want to share their own skills. That made us curious to learn more about Julia and what can take shape at her place in Leipzig.
From an idea to something you can hold
Perhaps you have a little collection of lovely things you would like to make one day. A macramé piece for your home, something with dried flowers or a gift that feels just right for someone you care about. The ideas are there. And it helps to have a place where you can actually get started.
That is exactly what Julia has created with Emotionfactory: a space for people who enjoy working with their hands, trying something new and taking pleasure in something they have made themselves. Here, ideas get time and a place at the table.
For Julia, spaces and ideas go together
Planning and design are part of Julia’s professional life, too. She works as a freelance architect, home stager and interior redesigner. She founded Emotionrooms in 2018, followed by Emotionfactory in 2022. Both businesses reflect her love of turning an idea into something real.
With Emotionfactory, she wanted to share that joy with amateur artists and DIY enthusiasts. Making accessories, creating personal gifts and exchanging ideas with others are all part of it. Trying something out is also a chance to discover what you enjoy and which ideas you would like to explore further.
A knot, a flower and your own personal touch
At Emotionfactory, you can try macramé, create something with dried flowers or choose your own project in the open craft sessions. You can arrive with a plan or find your inspiration once you are there. Which colour do you like? What would suit your home? Who would you like to make something for?
Step by step, your piece takes shape. Yarn becomes a pattern, individual flowers come together. You pause to look at what is taking shape in your hands and realise: this really is becoming something of my own. That little joy of making things yourself is there again when you turn your finished piece around to admire it from every angle.
Around the shared table, there is something else to discover that you will not find on any materials list: other people’s ideas. A colour combination you would never have thought of yourself. A conversation that starts with a question about the next step. A little creative time out can become a chance to meet someone new.
An open door for your own skills
Julia also thinks of people who would like to offer a workshop themselves. Emotionfactory can give other talented people space to share what they know and try out their own workshop formats. If there is something you love doing and would like to teach others, Julia is someone you can talk to about your workshop idea.
That is what impressed Lina so much: Julia enjoys discovering what others can do and wants to give them room to share it. You can talk together about what you would like to offer and how your workshop could work in her space.
Heading home with something you made and a smile
Whether you have just arrived in Leipzig or have lived here for years, an afternoon spent making things together can be a lovely way to meet new people. At Julia’s, you can try something you have been thinking about for a while and enjoy seeing what you have created.
And if you have a talent you would like to share, tell her about it. Julia’s open door brings both together: the joy of learning something new and the pleasure of getting others excited about it.
