One dancer began. Then the others joined her. Within moments, a whole group was moving together across Augustusplatz. That was how Follow the Beat, the travelling flash mob by Kassia Tanz and 99active, began.
The idea was simple: start the music, take the first step and invite people to move. From Augustusplatz, the flash mob travelled along Petersstraße and into Clara Zetkin Park. Every stop became a new chance to dance, watch and join in. Someone starts. Others join. One first step becomes a shared movement.
One move becomes a group
The dancers brought their choreography into the middle of everyday Leipzig. Anyone passing by could stop to watch or spontaneously try a few steps. A planned performance kept turning into an open Moment shared with the people around it.
It was about the joy of moving and that small instant when curiosity turns into participation. Some people only paused for a moment, while others stayed a little longer. Again and again, someone new joined the group.
Keeping the dance moving through the rain
Wind and rain simply became part of the afternoon’s story. The group drew closer and carried on dancing. That made the energy of Follow the Beat even clearer: movement does not need a perfect stage. It can begin in the middle of everyday life when one person starts and others follow.
